What is lyricism?

There’s always debates about what lyricism means and who’s a lyricist, so I wanted to talk about what I believe lyricism is in the simplest way possible.

Lyricism is about words and how well that artist can link their word togethers. Even when you think there’s no connection between those words, lyricists find a way to connect them and put them together. That’s what really sets lyricists apart because when you think there’s nowhere else to go with these words, they find a way to connect them and evoke this reaction out of you and paint a picture in your head that you never would have thought of. The whole point of lyricism is to paint a picture in that listener’s head whether it’s for a second or for the whole duration of the song. They’re trying to take you somewhere. They’re purposely thinking about their words from the sound of the word to the pronunciation of it, to even simple literary terms, because they want to get everything they can out of it and paint that picture. With lyricism you don’t always have to have mad wordplay and complex words to be a lyricist. You can be simple in the ways you connect your words and still be a lyricist. I think the beauty about lyricism is that there’s not just one form of it. You can have abstract lyricists like Wretch 32 who take a more poetic approach and also have subtle lyricists like Potter Payper who use clever wordplay and double entendres. The best and top of the top lyricists can give you both forms. But at the end of the day, it’s just important to remember that there’s not just one form of lyricism. Now enjoy a video of two GOATED lyricists together who you should definitely know about especially when it comes to this video...
